Help torture survivors find their voices again

For some survivors of torture, their experiences are too painful to talk about. Like Kellyne, who was arrested, tortured and raped in the Democratic Republic of the Congo for speaking out about the rape and murder of her 14-year-old sister.

The help of people like you has ensured our therapists have been able to help survivors, like Kellyne, rediscover their voices. When Kellyne came to Freedom from Torture she could barely talk about her experiences. She was anxious, depressed and suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder.

Your gifts have ensured that we are able to find innovative ways to help Kellyne start the healing process. Through art, she has opened up and is now beginning to build a life in the UK. She’s made some friends, volunteers at a refugee charity and has joined her local church.

Kellyne wanted to share her story and share how art therapy has helped her journey of rehabilitation.
