Torture is when someone deliberately inflicts pain on another person for a specific purpose. State brutality, sexual violence, and solitary confinement can all ‘count’ as torture.
Torture is often used against activists but it can happen to anybody for any reason —whether that is looking different, loving who you love, or standing up for what you believe in.
A free and tolerant society cannot allow or support torture, but we have to stand together in order to be heard. Add your name above and join the anti-torture movement.
If organisations like Freedom From Torture did not defend the rights of refugees and survivors, no one would.
At Freedom From Torture, we work directly with survivors of torture to help them rebuild their lives here in the UK.
We do this by providing therapy, legal advice, and practical support to anyone who walks through our doors.
The survivors we work with are using their voices to hold governments to account and seek justice for fellow survivors. We do what we do to support them.
